Best Photo Spots in Joshua Tree, California
Joshua Tree truly exceeded all of our expectations. The beauty of this desert is unparalleled and there is an energy in the park that I can’t quite explain. We will definitely be making it back here at some point this year! You can spend an entire day in Joshua Tree National Park hiking, marveling at the sights, camping, and even rock-bouldering. In this blog, I outline the Best Photo Spots in Joshua Tree, California so you plan your trip to the park.
A Joshua Tree

Did you really go to Joshua Tree National Park if you didn’t take a picture of a Joshua Tree? It’s a must when visiting the park! Did you know that the Joshua Trees received their name from Mormon settlers? The tree’s unusual shape reminded them of a bible story in which Joshua reaches his hand up to the sky in prayer.
Skull Rock

A natural rock formation that resembles a skull. It’s located right off Key’s View Road, you can’t miss it when driving past. There is a slight climb to get to this viewpoint but it’s super easy to get up with a narrow footpath. Furthermore, if you follow the trail to the right of Skull Rock you’ll be rewarded with these insane boulder views!
Arch Rock
Arch Rock is a hidden gem and for whatever reason, reminds me of the Tatooine desert from Star Wars. Does anyone else see it?
Hiking to Arch Rock is super easy when you know where to start. It’s a 3/4 mile hike to reach the Arch and another narrow footpath to access the viewpoint. It will take 15-20 minutes each way to get to Arch Rock. We heard a pack of coyotes when hiking there and I’m not going to lie, was kind of freaked out but we made it out alive! Even still. it was my favorite part of visiting Joshua Tree National Park.
Cholla Cactus Garden

If you can, visit the Cholla Cactus Garden at sunset. It’s located right off Key’s View Road and there is a small parking lot to park in. It’s the busiest time to visit the garden but it’s well worth it. The colors here will take your breath away. Finally, these cacti are not-so-friendly and kind of a prick, so make sure not to touch them when taking pictures!
Barker Dam

Hiking the Barker Dam is an easy 1-mile loop hike that leads to a dam that was created back in the 1900s. It’s very rare to find water in the desert, so that’s why this is such a popular place to visit in Joshua Tree.
Keys View

Keys View lookout has panoramic views overlooking the Coachella Valley. You can drive right up to this point and there is a .2 mile hike up the ridge for an even better view. We did not have enough time to get here, but it’s a must-see when you’re visiting the park!
Keys Ranch

An example of early settlement in the Mojave desert with small buildings showcasing what life was like back in 1910. Admission to Keys Ranch is limited and costs an additional $10. The Keys Ranch tours last 90 minutes.
