The Best Coffee Shops in San Diego, California
Over the last decade, San Diego has turned into a Mecca for foodies but should also be known for its coffee shops. There are so many places in San Diego that are new and noteworthy to grab your cup of joe. The below coffee roasters are top-notch with delicious blends that people wait in line for. Believe me, I did some extensive research on this post and tried them all (best research ever if ya ask me). Not only that, but these coffee shops are the prettiest and most aesthetically pleasing places in San Diego. Below is my “Best Coffee Shops in San Diego” blog post!
Better Buzz – Hillcrest
Insanely good coffee, the constant line out the door is a perfect indicator of that. It’s also a great place to come and work because the aesthetic is so on point it actually makes you more creative – trust me – a LOT of this site has been created while sitting at Better Buzz Hillcrest. For an instant jolt of caffeine ask for “The Best Drink Ever.” It’ll have you going for hours! Also note, that they have tons of other locations scattered about San Diego. Each of them with its own charm so you need to check them all out.
Location: 801 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103
Holsem Coffee — North Park
Super modern, clean design, and their coffee is delicious! It’s located in the heart of North Park and is known to be super busy during morning hours. They now have a cute outdoor seating area for prime people-watching on El Cajon Blvd.
Location: 2911 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104
Communal Coffee — South Park
Easily the cutest coffee shop I have ever laid eyes on. Who doesn’t love a good coffee truck and chic decor? I will say I was a little taken aback when they said they didn’t have any almond milk and only have oat milk. Tell me you live in California without telling me you live in California. Even still, it is still my favorite on this list! The aesthetic is EVERYTHING!
Location: 2221 Fern St, San Diego, CA 92104
Located on the back deck of my favorite breakfast spot, is a cute little coffee cart called Kono’s. It’s directly across from the beach so I swear that makes the coffee taste better. Their vanilla latte is their claim to fame and if you have time to stop for breakfast, you will not be disappointed!
Address: 704 Garnet Ave, San Diego, CA 92109
Communal Coffee — North Park
The same owners as the one in South Park (2 miles away) but this one is a little more classic with the same great coffee and cute aesthetic. COFFEE + FLOWERS = BRING YOUR CAMERA!
Location: 2335 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104
Bird Rock Coffee Roasters — Little Italy
Open-air coffee shop located on a bustling corner in Little Italy for prime people-watching with your brew. They have five locations scattered across San Diego and occasionally have “cupping” which is a technique they use to evaluate coffees and get to know their flavors and aromas.
Location: 2295 Kettner Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101
Joe & The Juice — La Jolla
This place started in Europe and is taking America by storm. They recently opened up in the UTC mall and have the cutest decor and the vanilla milk sure is TASTY (and probably filled with calories but a girl needs her coffee)!
TIP: they are cashless so make sure to bring your credit card!
Location: 4545 La Jolla Village Dr Suite, San Diego, CA 92122
Moniker Coffee — Liberty Station
With coffee, bikes, cocktails, and geometric tiles galore this coffee shop is unlike most others. They have tons of couches and spaces to get your work done and even have a cocktail bar for happy hour. Furthermore, there is a cute shop that sells women’s and men’s clothing. It’s one of my favorites on this list that can’t be missed!
Location: 2860 Sims Rd, San Diego, CA 92106
Coffee & Tea Collective — North Park
Since 2010 Coffee & Tea Collective has been serving up some amazing brews. Furthermore, the coffee is robust and the space on El Cajon Blvd also doubles as an art gallery. If you’re a die-hard coffee aficionado, you have to check out C&T. If you’re in the downtown area, check out their location on J St.
Location: 2911 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92104
Lofty Coffee — Little Italy
Give me a good pun and I’m all set! This cute indoor/outdoor spot is a new kid on the block but taking the coffee game by storm.
Location: 444 W Cedar St, San Diego, CA 92101
Holy Matcha — North Park
Maybe you’re not in the mood for coffee. Maybe you’re in the mood for some Matcha. Matcha is all the rage these days and Holy Matcha’s pink and green vibes and minimal aesthetic combine for a great place for an afternoon pick-me-up.
Not going to lie, I’ve tried Matcha and it is NOT FOR ME – but a lot of people love it! But give me a cute atmosphere and yummy donuts and I’ll keep showing up!
Location: 3118 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104
The Henry Coronado
Located in Coronado, The Henry is a hip new restaurant with a walk-up coffee bar attached. They have delicious pastries and an array of curated coffee drinks. Not to mention, the decor is so adorable!
Dark Horse — Normal Heights
Dark Horse is my husband’s favorite coffee in all of San Diego – and he REALLY likes coffee. Dark Horse has four locations in San Diego but the one in Normal Heights was the first. Aside from good coffee, you have to make sure you check out their merch!
Location: 3794 30th St, San Diego, CA 92104
