10 Tips for Working from Home
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic across the world, most companies have resorted to “work from home” employees. If you’ve just been thrown into this role – I’m here to help with my top 10 tips for working from home. This blog will help you settle in to this new lifestyle for the next few weeks.
Personally, I’ve worked from home for the past year. These tips have tremendously helped my productivity. And hey, if you’re super productive – maybe you’ll be able to work from home indefinitely and then you can travel more? How’s that for a silver lining!
Designate a Workspace
Whether it’s your kitchen table or a small desk inside your bedroom it’s important to designate a workspace when working from home for privacy and productivity reasons.
You need to set boundaries for yourself and the family members you live with. Yes, you’re working from home, but you should do it with the least amount of distractions possible. Let them know that during your working hours to please act as if you’re not home.
Create a To-Do List
This is very important since there are tons of distractions at home. When you create a to-do list you’ll have a goal of what needs to be accomplished by the end of the day. Make it your goal to check off all those tasks and refer back to the list when you start to get distracted!
Keep your schedule
Keep your same working schedule as if you were in the office. You can easily lose track of time when you get in the working zone. Make sure to set a schedule, stick to it, and designate a hard cut-off time to maintain that work/life balance.
It’s so important to take breaks throughout your workday. Just because you work from home does not mean that you don’t need a break. With that said, it’s also very important to take a lunch break.
Fresh air is always a good idea. Especially, since you’re not commuting to work. Because of that, most people don’t go outside for the whole day. Even if it’s for 10 minutes to walk around the block or hang in your backyard – get outside!
A couple of other activities you can do on a short break:
- 15-minute meditation
- 15-minute workout flow
- listen to a podcast
- drink water + grab a snack
This one is crucial! You don’t want to get up for the day and immediately start working. Suddenly it will be 1pm and you haven’t brushed your teeth yet. Trust me, I’ve been there. Take 20-30 minutes to slowly wake up, eat breakfast, take a shower, and get dressed.
Stay Away from Social Media
Listen, this one is hard. Especially for me since I’m a content creator. It’s hard to stay productive when you’re constantly checking your phone so a good rule of thumb is to leave it in the other room. I know, it’s easier said than done but you can easily go down that social media rabbit hole and lose track of time. Instead, circle back to your to-do list and keep yourself accountable!
Purchase Bluelight glasses
We live in a digital world my friends and many people suffer from eye-strain and don’t even know it! Especially if you’re working from home. If you’re in front of a computer for more than a couple of hours a day, purchase a pair of blue-light glasses. They have been a lifesaver for me since and it leads to way fewer headaches at the end of the week!

Listen to Music or a Podcast
Music instantly puts me in a happy mood so when I’m getting into that mid-day slump I always listen to one of my playlists. It’s great to pump you up and keep you productive for the rest of the day. Hey, you can even use one of your breaks for a dance break!
Podcasts have been super helpful to me as a content creator and they instantly put me in a productive working mood. Some of my favorites are The Influencer Podcast, Her Life by Design, The Skinny Confidential, and The Goal Digger.
Make WFH Friends
It gets really lonely working from home because you technically don’t have any co-workers to chat with. Try to find friends that work from home that will help you stay accountable! meet up at your local coffee shop, start a chat room, or simply send a text to your friends!
