Morning: Visit Stanley Park
Visitors often start their day at the Vancouver Convention Centre before heading to Stanley Park. Stanley Park is a must-visit for everyone traveling to Vancouver. Encompassing over 1,000 acres, this expansive park is a harmonious blend of natural beauty and recreational amenities. Boasting lush forests, serene lakes, and picturesque meadows, Stanley Park provides a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.
Next, the park is home to a network of scenic trails, inviting visitors to explore its diverse landscapes on foot or by bicycle. The iconic Stanley Park Seawall, a popular pathway along the park’s waterfront, offers breathtaking views of the city skyline, mountains, and the Pacific Ocean.
In addition, Stanley Park features cultural attractions such as the Totem Poles, showcasing Indigenous art and heritage. The Vancouver Aquarium, situated within the park, is a renowned marine science center that adds an educational dimension to the visitor experience.
After your stroll through the park enjoy brunch at Botanist. We love and highly recommend this airy, high-end restaurant in the Fairmont Hotel. It offers modern Canadian cuisine, wine & cocktails. Menu favorites include the brioche french toast and lobster eggs benedict. Finally, the setting is dreamy surrounded by plants and a grand piano.
Finally, for those interested in gardens and scenic views, Queen Elizabeth Park is a great alternative to Stanley Park. Which offers expansive gardens, trails, and stunning views from the highest point in the city.
Afternoon: North Vancouver Adventures
On the afternoon of Day 1, venture across the water to North Vancouver, a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. This area offers a plethora of activities set against the stunning backdrop of the North Shore Mountains. One of the highlights is the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, where you can experience the thrill of walking across the swaying 450-foot-long bridge suspended high above the Capilano River. The park also features the Treetops Adventure and the Cliffwalk, providing unique perspectives of the lush forest and canyon below.
If you’re looking for a more tranquil escape, head to Lynn Canyon Park. This hidden gem offers scenic hiking trails, picturesque waterfalls, and the serene beauty of the North Shore Mountains. The park’s suspension bridge, though smaller than Capilano’s, provides equally breathtaking views and a more intimate connection with nature. Whether you choose the adrenaline-pumping adventures of Capilano or the peaceful trails of Lynn Canyon, North Vancouver promises an unforgettable afternoon immersed in the natural splendor of Canada’s West Coast.
Evening: Dinner in Gastown
As twilight descends, the cobblestone streets come alive in Gastown with the warm glow of antique street lamps and the distinct ambiance of this historic neighborhood.
Start your evening by exploring the iconic Gastown Steam Clock, a mechanical marvel that marks the passage of time with its melodious chimes and bursts of steam. Every 15 minutes, you can witness the clock shoot steam and whistle in its version of the Westminster Chime. Next, wander through the narrow streets lined with red-brick buildings, each with its unique character, housing trendy boutiques, galleries, and cozy cafes.
Dining in Gastown is a culinary adventure, with a diverse array of restaurants offering everything from innovative West Coast cuisine to international flavors. Enjoy a delightful dinner in a historic setting, perhaps at a restaurant with exposed brick walls or an intimate courtyard. Or consider booking this Gastown Walking Food Tour if you prefer group activities. The best part about Gastown is many establishments showcase the city’s commitment to farm-to-table dining, ensuring a fresh and flavorful experience. Finally, restaurant favorites include Water St. Cafe, Pourhouse Restaurant, and Meet in Gastown.
Day 2: Nature and Culture
Morning: Visit Capilano Suspension Bridge Park
Easily, one of the most iconic attractions in Vancouver is a visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. It’s an exhilarating adventure that seamlessly combines breathtaking natural beauty with thrilling experiences. As you step onto the swaying 450-foot-long Capilano Suspension Bridge, suspended 250 feet high above the Capilano River, you’ll feel a sense of both awe and excitement.
The sturdy yet flexible bridge (it can hold the weight of 97 elephants) provides panoramic views of the lush surrounding forest. Immersing visitors in the serene wilderness of British Columbia. The sway of the bridge, the rush of the river below, and the verdant canopy overhead create an unforgettable experience. It gave off total Twilight vibes for all my Twihards out there!
Beyond the suspension bridge, the park offers an array of treetop adventures through the Treetops Adventure and the Cliffwalk. The Treetops Adventure features a series of suspended walkways and platforms, allowing you to walk along the towering Douglas fir trees. It’s incredible to observe the forest from a unique perspective. Next, The Cliffwalk is not for the faint of heart. This section is a cantilevered walkway along the granite cliffside. It offers a thrilling journey with glass-bottomed sections providing jaw-dropping views of the canyon below.
Along with visiting, the park offers tons of dining options and interactive exhibits that share the cultural and natural history of the region. With lush rainforest surroundings, informative exhibits, and exciting activities, a visit to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is a must!
Finally, everything mentioned is included in the ticket price. They offer free shuttles from multiple locations downtown and the drive is equally as beautiful passing over the Lions Gate Bridge. Another alternative if you prefer a more hidden gem is Lynn Canyon Park.
Afternoon: Granville Island Public Market 3 days in Vancouver Itinerary
Granville Island Public Market is a bustling and vibrant marketplace situated in the heart of Vancouver, British Columbia. Nestled on an island, this iconic market is a mecca for food enthusiasts and visitors seeking casual cuisine. The market offers a diverse array of fresh, local produce, craft beers, gourmet foods, and artisanal crafts. Not only that, but the views from the island are unmatched.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the aromas of freshly baked bread, aromatic spices, and an eclectic mix of cuisines. Stall after stall showcases colorful fruits, vegetables, and seafood, creating a visual spectacle that reflects the region’s rich agricultural bounty and maritime heritage. Fan favorites include Siegel’s Bagels, Lees Donuts, Longliner Seafood, The Stock Market, Hobbs Pickle, and A La Mode. The lively atmosphere is enhanced by street performers and musicians, adding to the overall charm and energy of the market.
Evening: Beach Sunset + Fine Dining Experience
Start your evening at Sunset Beach Park, nestled along the shores of English Bay in Vancouver. Sunset Beach Park is near English Bay Beach, a popular spot for beachgoers. It is one of the best sunset spots in town and as the sun descends over the Pacific Ocean, the park’s sandy shoreline becomes a prime spot to witness the vibrant hues. The park features a scenic seawall promenade, ideal for walks and cycling. It also offers stunning panoramic views of the city skyline and coastal mountains.
Next, enjoy a fine dining experience at Notch8. With a luxurious and contemporary design inspired by the romance of travel in the 1930s. Notch8 brings a new era of glamour to the lobby of Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Named after a train’s top speed, it pays homage to the storied history and legacy as a luxury hotel along the Canadian Pacific Railway. Featuring regional fare that includes new favorites, cocktails made popular during pre-prohibition times, as well as an extensive Canadian wine list.
Day 3 Coastal Delights
Morning: Leisurely Morning Brunch or Whale Watching (season dependent)
If you happen to be in Vancouver during whale-watching season (April-October) then I would recommend a whale-watching tour to start your day. Is there anything better than experiencing orcas and humpback whales in their natural habitat with the backdrop of majestic mountain ranges? I’ve linked a few great tour options above:
If you prefer to have a leisurely start to the day after yesterday’s adventures, then indulge in a great brunch spot. Who doesn’t love a morning filled with an aesthetic brunch place with delicious cuisine and coffee? A few favorites in downtown Vancouver are Botanist, Jam Cafe, Revolver Coffee, Thierry Chocolates, and Tableau Bar Bistro.
Next, take a visit to the Vancouver Art Gallery. As the largest public art museum in Western Canada, the Gallery features the work of groundbreaking contemporary artists from around the world. They offer diverse exhibits that showcase an eclectic blend of contemporary and traditional artworks. When we visited they had an overarching fashion theme and it was incredibly cool.
Late Afternoon: Grouse Mountain
Grouse Mountain, located 30 minutes outside Vancouver, is a year-round destination offering a spectacular alpine experience. Known as the “Peak of Vancouver,” this mountain paradise is accessible by the Skyride gondola. Providing breathtaking views of the city, ocean, and surrounding North Shore mountains throughout the ascent. Once at the summit, visitors can indulge in a myriad of activities.
In the winter months, Grouse Mountain transforms into a winter wonderland. Attracting skiers and snowboarders with its diverse slopes and terrain parks. The outdoor ice rink, surrounded by twinkling lights and snow-covered trees, adds to the festive atmosphere, inviting visitors to enjoy a classic Canadian pastime.
During the summer, Grouse Mountain is great for hiking enthusiasts who can explore the extensive trails. They range from leisurely walks to challenging hikes and are all paired with stunning vistas of the city and beyond. Next, The Grouse Grind, a steep hiking trail, is a favorite among fitness enthusiasts seeking a rewarding climb. Finally, the Skyride isn’t just a gondola but an exhilarating experience in itself. Offering panoramic views of the picturesque landscape the mountain offers.
