How to Get to St. Tropez

Getting to St. Tropez can be an adventure in itself. As this glamorous destination on the French Riviera is not directly accessible by train or major highways. The nearest airports are in Nice, Toulon, and Marseille, with Nice CĂŽte d’Azur Airport being the most popular option for international travelers. From Nice, you can either drive along the scenic coastal roads, which take about 1.5 to 2 hours or take a train to nearby cities like St. Raphael or Sainte-Maxime, followed by a ferry or taxi to St. Tropez. We rented a car from the Nice airport and drove to town and would highly recommend doing that.

During peak season, the ferry from Sainte-Maxime is a preferred option to avoid traffic congestion. If you’re up for a luxurious experience (and price tag), private helicopter transfers from Nice are also available, providing stunning aerial views of the CĂŽte d’Azur. Finally, when in town there are many paid parking lots and no free parking available.

Stroll Through the Old Town (La Ponche)

Wandering through the Old Town of St. Tropez, known as La Ponche, feels like stepping back in time. The narrow, cobblestone streets are lined with charming pastel-colored buildings that have stood for centuries, their shutters painted in soft shades of blue and green. As you wander through these winding streets, you’ll find yourself at the bustling Place des Lices, where locals gather for lively games of pĂ©tanque under the shade of ancient plane trees.

Just a short walk away, the Annonciade Museum offers a glimpse into the artistic soul of St. Tropez, with its impressive collection of post-Impressionist works. Along the way, be sure to pause at one of the quaint cafés for a coffee, or explore the local boutiques where you can pick up unique treasures that capture the essence of this enchanting town.

Relax at a Beach Club

For the ultimate St. Tropez experience, spending a day at one of its iconic beach clubs is a must. Pampelonne Beach, with its long stretch of golden sand, is home to legendary spots like Club 55. Where you can lounge in style, sip on a chilled glass of rosé, and indulge in fresh seafood right on the beach.

Plage de Tahiti offers a similar vibe, with plush sunbeds and attentive service that make it easy to lose track of time. But if you’re craving something a bit more low-key, wander along the coastline to discover quieter coves where you can unwind away from the crowds, soaking in the tranquil beauty of the French Riviera. Our most memorable stop in St. Tropez was Gigi Beach Club. It’s secluded and feels as though you’ve been transported to glamourous Hamptons. With live music at the restaurant and a full-service pool to relax at, this spot is a one-stop shop! Reservations are not required and the valet parking fee is €15.

Visit a Designer Cafe

Visiting a designer cafĂ© in St. Tropez is a delightful way to immerse yourself in the town’s chic ambiance. These stylish spots blend high fashion with the art of coffee, creating an experience that’s as visually appealing as it is indulgent.

One such cafĂ© is Dior Des Lices, where the luxury fashion house Dior has created a serene garden setting in the heart of St. Tropez. Here, you can sip on a perfectly crafted espresso or enjoy a delicate pastry served on Dior-branded china, surrounded by lush greenery and the brand’s signature elegance. The menu offers a selection of light bites, from gourmet salads to artisanal sandwiches. Each is presented with the same attention to detail that defines Dior’s fashion collections (coffee and pastry prices range from €7-€18). It’s best to make a reservation here as it’s a very popular place. Finally, you can shop the luxurious goods in the stunning ivy-colored building.

For a more modern vibe, Café Sénéquier, located along the port, is another must-visit. Known for its bright red awnings and iconic status, this café offers a quintessential St. Tropez experience with a touch of designer flair. Here, you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast or a chic afternoon tea while people-watching along the harbor, soaking in the vibrant energy of the town. Finally, the Louis Vuitton cafe has become popular over the last year and is another great option.

No matter which cafĂ© you choose, you’ll find that these designer spots offer more than just coffee. They provide a slice of the glamorous St. Tropez lifestyle, where every detail is carefully curated to enhance your experience.

Visit the Port + Book a Boat Tour Experience

The scenic harbor of St. Tropez is a blend of old-world charm and modern luxury, where sleek, gleaming yachts sit side by side with colorful fishing boats. One of the best experiences is booking a boat tour. There is truly no better way to explore the French Riviera’s stunning coastline. As you set sail from the port, you’ll enjoy views of the town’s colorful skyline and glide past the famous Pampelonne Beach, known for its chic beach clubs.

The tour often includes stops at serene spots like Baie des Canebiers. Where you can take a refreshing swim in crystal-clear waters. You’ll also have the chance to discover hidden coves and secret beaches, far from the crowds. Offering a more intimate experience of the region’s natural beauty. As you cruise along, you’ll pass by luxurious villas and estates that dot the coast. Many tours end with a sunset cruise, where you can sip local rosĂ© while watching the sky light up in shades of pink and orange. A perfect way to close out your day in this glamorous destination!

Indulge in the Local Cuisine

The local cuisine in St. Tropez is a delightful blend of fresh seafood, aromatic herbs, and sun-ripened vegetables. Dishes like bouillabaisse, a rich seafood stew, and pissaladiĂšre, a caramelized onion tart, showcase the region’s flavors. For a true taste of the city, try a serving of tapenade, an olive spread often enjoyed with crusty bread. For a sweet treat, try the famous tarte tropĂ©zienne. Which is a sweet brioche filled with creamy custard that originated in the town. Dining in St. Tropez is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the food. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely meal at a rustic bistro tucked away in the Old Town or savoring fine dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant overlooking the harbor.

If you’re in town on a Saturday then you must visit the market in the charming Place des Lices. It’s a vibrant showcase of Provençal culture. Where locals and visitors gather to experience the best of the region’s produce and crafts. This market is filled with colorful stalls offering everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to herbs, artisanal cheeses, and meats. You’ll also find an array of handcrafted goods, including baskets, lavender-scented soaps, and fashion that capture the essence of the Riviera style. The atmosphere is lively and the scent of fresh bread and pastries fills the air. It’s the perfect place to pick up ingredients for a picnic or enjoy a leisurely morning!

Experience the Nightlife

The nightlife in St. Tropez is legendary, offering something for everyone, from high-energy clubbing to laid-back evenings by the sea. At the heart of the scene is Les Caves du Roy. This iconic nightclub is known for its glamorous atmosphere, where international DJs play to a crowd of celebrities and nightlife aficionados. The club’s luxurious decor and electrifying vibe make it a must-visit for those looking to dance the night away in true St. Tropez style.

For a more relaxed evening, St. Tropez also offers an array of chic wine bars and beachfront lounges. Places like Bar du Port and Le Quai provide the perfect setting to sip on a glass of fine French wine while enjoying the view of the harbor. Finally, one of the seasonal highlights is the Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez regatta. A spectacular sailing event that is held each fall. The regatta brings together classic and modern yachts for a week of races, and the celebrations continue into the night with parties that light up the harbor.

Day Trips and Excursions

While St. Tropez is a destination in itself, the surrounding area offers enticing escapes that are perfect for day trips. Just a short drive away, you’ll find the picturesque village of Port Grimaud. Often called the “Venice of Provence,” with its charming canals and colorful houses. Nearby, the hilltop villages of Gassin and Ramatuelle provide stunning panoramic views of the coastline.

If you prefer to stay on land, hiking in the Massif des Maures offers a chance for nature lovers with lush forests and rolling hills. Finally, for wine enthusiasts, the vineyards surrounding St. Tropez provide excellent opportunities for wine-tasting tours. Where you can sample some of the finest wines the region has to offer, all while enjoying the beautiful countryside. Below I’ve listed the top wineries:

Shopping in St. Tropez

Easily one of the best things to do in St. Tropez is the shopping scene. Where luxury boutiques and designer stores line the charming streets, offering everything from high fashion to exclusive local finds. The premier shopping mile, Rue François Sibilli, is the heart of this retail haven. Here, you’ll find iconic brand names like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Dior.
