Getting to St. Tropez can be an adventure in itself. As this glamorous destination on the French Riviera is not directly accessible by train or major highways. The nearest airports are in Nice, Toulon, and Marseille, with Nice Côte d’Azur Airport being the most popular option for international travelers. From Nice, you can either drive along the scenic coastal roads, which take about 1.5 to 2 hours or take a train to nearby cities like St. Raphael or Sainte-Maxime, followed by a ferry or taxi to St. Tropez. We rented a car from the Nice airport and drove to town and would highly recommend doing that.
During peak season, the ferry from Sainte-Maxime is a preferred option to avoid traffic congestion. If you’re up for a luxurious experience (and price tag), private helicopter transfers from Nice are also available, providing stunning aerial views of the Côte d’Azur. Finally, when in town there are many paid parking lots and no free parking available.
Wandering through the Old Town of St. Tropez, known as La Ponche, feels like stepping back in time. The narrow, cobblestone streets are lined with charming pastel-colored buildings that have stood for centuries, their shutters painted in soft shades of blue and green. As you wander through these winding streets, you’ll find yourself at the bustling Place des Lices, where locals gather for lively games of pétanque under the shade of ancient plane trees.
Just a short walk away, the Annonciade Museum offers a glimpse into the artistic soul of St. Tropez, with its impressive collection of post-Impressionist works. Along the way, be sure to pause at one of the quaint cafés for a coffee, or explore the local boutiques where you can pick up unique treasures that capture the essence of this enchanting town.
For the ultimate St. Tropez experience, spending a day at one of its iconic beach clubs is a must. Pampelonne Beach, with its long stretch of golden sand, is home to legendary spots like Club 55. Where you can lounge in style, sip on a chilled glass of rosé, and indulge in fresh seafood right on the beach.
Plage de Tahiti offers a similar vibe, with plush sunbeds and attentive service that make it easy to lose track of time. But if you’re craving something a bit more low-key, wander along the coastline to discover quieter coves where you can unwind away from the crowds, soaking in the tranquil beauty of the French Riviera. Our most memorable stop in St. Tropez was Gigi Beach Club. It’s secluded and feels as though you’ve been transported to glamourous Hamptons. With live music at the restaurant and a full-service pool to relax at, this spot is a one-stop shop! Reservations are not required and the valet parking fee is €15.
Visiting a designer café in St. Tropez is a delightful way to immerse yourself in the town’s chic ambiance. These stylish spots blend high fashion with the art of coffee, creating an experience that’s as visually appealing as it is indulgent.
One such café is Dior Des Lices, where the luxury fashion house Dior has created a serene garden setting in the heart of St. Tropez. Here, you can sip on a perfectly crafted espresso or enjoy a delicate pastry served on Dior-branded china, surrounded by lush greenery and the brand’s signature elegance. If you’re in town on a Saturday then you must visit the market in the charming Place des Lices. It’s a vibrant showcase of Provençal culture. Where locals and visitors gather to experience the best of the region’s produce and crafts. This market is filled with colorful stalls offering everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to herbs, artisanal cheeses, and meats. You’ll also find an array of handcrafted goods, including baskets, lavender-scented soaps, and fashion that capture the essence of the Riviera style. The atmosphere is lively and the scent of fresh bread and pastries fills the air. It’s the perfect place to pick up ingredients for a picnic or enjoy a leisurely morning!
