An Honest Gucci Marmont Shoulder Bag Review

The Gucci Marmont collection gets its name from an archival 70’s inspired symbol that was duped the Marmont. It was first seen on the Gucci runway in 2016 and ever since then has included pieces from shoulder bags to crossbody, totes, and mini designs. I’ve had the Gucci Marmont small shoulder bag for over three years now and below I’m going to give you my honest review on if it’s worth it or not (spoiler it most definitely is!).

Durability and Sizing

The MATELASSÉ leather on the crossbody is durable albeit strong. It is a smooth leather compared to the textured leather of the Gucci disco bag. Because of its chevron design, it adds a little bit of oomph to the design.

There are a variety of sizes in the GG Marmont shoulder bag I’ve included the measurements of the small size (which is the one I have):

• Adjustable chain shoulder strap with 23.5″ drop (pictured above). Can also be worn as a crossbody bag.
• Zipper closure with elongated zipper pullers
• Weight: .394kg approximately
• Small size: 9.5″W x 5″H x 3″D
• Microfiber lining with a suede-like finish
• Made in Italy

*The Gucci Marmont shoulder bag also comes in a mini version. Funnily enough, I purchased the mini version first but after a day of owning the mini, I decided I needed more room. The Gucci Marmont small version is similar in size to the Gucci Soho Disco. The Marmont mini didn’t even fit my iPhone XS max comfortably so I had to opt for the larger size. I’ve included a link so you can compare the mini to the small but if you take anything away from this blog post, spend the extra $200 and get small!

Pros to the Gucci Marmont Bag

The bag is much bigger than you think

I can fit A LOT of items in my Gucci Marmont and still have room to spare. It even fits my full-size wallet and iPhone Max and it still has plenty of room for other necessities such as lipstick, keys, tissues, etc.

It has an elevated classic style

The chevron design and rectangle shape on the bag will keep this baby in style for years and years to come. I especially love the fact that it comes in a variety of colors (mine is dusty pink).

It can act as a crossbody

Even though it’s technically a shoulder bag, I use mine as a crossbody mostly. Which makes it easier to travel and if you’re always on the go. Along with that, the strap is leather and has a small amount of chain link on the bottom so it’s super comfortable to wear all day long.

it’s REversible

One of my favorite parts of the Gucci Marmont shoulder bag is that it’s reversible! You can wear the bag on either side (pictured above) so for those days I’m not feeling like a gold accent I can simply turn it over and have the classic GG monogram shown instead.

Cons to the Bag

The Lining is Light

The reason why I put this on the cons list is that sometimes when the lining is light, it’s a lot harder to keep it looking fresh and new. However, since the fabric is microfiber it does make it easier to clean if you were to spill.

On the lighter leathers, color transfer is a possibility

I’ve worn my bag with jeans and dark colors time and time again and this has never occurred. However, I live in a warm climate and don’t see much rain so I’ve heard that on the white and dusty pink you can transfer color from your jeans to the bag itself. But if you take care of your items it is highly unlikely color transfer will occur.

How to Style the Gucci Marmont Shoulder Bag

This bag is so versatile and I love using it year-round! During the winter, I love styling it with an all-white look and in the summer months, it pairs perfectly with my mini dresses. Try tying a hair scarf around one of the straps for a boho-chic look. Finally, it’s an easy bag to take from day to night.
