Over recent years, it’s gained more popularity, especially in San Diego because it’s so close and such a unique destination.

Things to Know Before Visiting
- Valle de Guadalupe is easily accessible from Southern California, whether you drive across the San Ysidro border or fly into Tijuana Airport.
- The region boasts a variety of unique accommodations, including eco-friendly options like Mira Earth Studios and luxury stays like Encuentro Guadalupe.
- Wine tasting is one of the best things to do when visiting Valle. With many renowned wineries to visit, don’t forget to make reservations for both tastings and dining for a seamless experience.
- The best time to visit Valle de Guadalupe is from April to October when the weather is pleasant and ideal for outdoor activities. Fall, in particular, offers a great climate, making it a recommended time for your trip.
- Keep in mind that July is their harvest season so while it’s a popular time to visit, it can bring very hot days. So plan accordingly.
- If you’re looking to hire a driver for the day, there are a few reputable companies to book through (more on that later). It’s a great idea, especially if you have a big group or plan on indulging in wine tastings. This adds convenience and ensures you can enjoy your wine tour safely and comfortably.
Getting to Valle de Guadalupe
Traveling to Valle de Guadalupe is straightforward, particularly for those starting from Southern California. A popular route includes a two-hour drive from San Diego, crossing the border at San Ysidro. Making it a convenient weekend escape.
After crossing the border, consider taking the scenic route along the coast and stopping in Rosarito for the infamous Los Portales de Garcia restaurant. This coastline is the gateway to Baja California and is breathtaking. Los Portales restaurant is perched on top of a cliff and has amazing cuisine and cocktails. From there, the drive is approximately an hour and a half to Valle and you will have 2-3 toll roads to get there so make sure to have cash (they take American dollars).
Alternatively, flying into Tijuana Airport is a viable option. From the airport, renting a car or hiring a driver provides flexibility and convenience, especially for those who prefer not to drive. No matter your choice, reaching Valle de Guadalupe is easy, setting the stage for a memorable trip.
Crossing the Border at San Ysidro
The San Ysidro border is the busiest border crossing in the world. When you’re crossing over into Mexico (while driving) it’s fairly easy and most of the time we have experienced it we didn’t need to show our passport. However, when you’re crossing into the United States, wait times can sometimes reach up to 4 hours during peak periods.
Avoid long delays by crossing during off-peak hours or using the SENTRI line if you have Global Entry. You can tell if you have SENTRI by looking at the back of your Global Entry card, it will say SENTRI. Do note that every person in your car must have this pass to enter using the SENTRI line. And you’re going to want to use it because this can reduce crossing time to 10-30 minutes, ensuring a much smoother journey.

Mira Earth Studios is an excellent choice. Finally, later this year the infinity pool will be complete and it will tie in the resort.
Banyan Tree Veya

Bruma Winery
Bruma Winery stands out for its rustic charm, built around a majestic 300-year-old oak tree enhancing its unique atmosphere. Family-owned and operated, Bruma provides a warm, inviting experience complemented by exceptional wines.
The cozy tasting room allows visitors to savor delicious wines crafted with care and dedication. Visiting Bruma Winery is a must for an authentic and memorable wine-tasting experience. It is a bit on the pricier side, but we have to say we will always pay a bit more for the vibes and Bruma brings them. The staff was very kind and accommodating, and you’ll have to make extra time to dine at their restaurant Fauna (more on that below).
Bloodlust
Have you ever seen the garlic shaped building plastered all over Instagram and wondered where that was? Well, that my friends is a little place called Bloodlust. It feels as though you’ve stepped into the Tatooine desert upon arriving (sunset here is magical). Furthermore, they have an extensive wine tasting menu.
If you’re staying for dinner, their green hummus, agnolotti, roasted carrots, and homemade bread were all *chefs kiss*. The atmosphere all around is exquisite and make sure to check out their website for a live music calendar. Finally, they offer free parking on site.
Vena Cava
Vena Cava captivates with its innovative architecture, constructed from repurposed materials blending seamlessly with the natural landscape. The owners of the winery have an affinity for boats, so the tasting room is inside an upside-down boat. It’s an incredibly cool feat. They specialize in natural wines and emphasize organic farming and minimal intervention, reflecting the region’s unique terroir.
The vibrant wine tasting room, staffed by experts, offers an engaging educational experience for wine enthusiasts. You can choose from a normal wine tasting experience, natural wine tasting experience, or a combination (2 of the 4 wines are organic). They range from $18-$35 and last about 30 minutes. Finally, Vena Cava is a must-visit for those interested in natural, sustainable winemaking.
Monte Xanic
Monte Xanic is renowned for its high-quality wines and picturesque setting, highlighting any wine tour in Valle de Guadalupe. Visitors can enjoy a variety of wine styles, from rich reds to crisp whites, showcasing the region’s unique characteristics.

Kous Kous del Valle brings the vibrant flavors of Moroccan and Mediterranean cuisine to the breathtaking landscape of Valle de Guadalupe. Helmed by Chef Moumen, who grew up in Morocco and built a successful culinary career in San Diego before bringing his expertise to Baja, the restaurant showcases meticulously prepared dishes like fragrant tagines, fluffy couscous, and homemade pita bread.
The warm, inviting ambiance, enhanced by Moroccan-inspired décor, creates a romantic setting that elevates the dining experience. The views are quite stunning as you can see the expansive valley. With exceptional flavors, attentive service, and a seamless fusion of tradition and innovation, Kous Kous del Valle is a must-visit for food lovers exploring the region.
Oja
Oja offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience in Valle de Guadalupe, seamlessly blending a stylish ambiance with a menu that highlights the region’s fresh, high-quality ingredients. Known for its chic, Instagram-worthy décor, the restaurant features a contemporary yet inviting atmosphere, perfect for an unforgettable culinary escape.
The menu showcases expertly crafted appetizers, including fresh seafood oysters, perfectly complemented by innovative, handcrafted cocktails designed to elevate every bite. Whether you’re indulging in a leisurely meal with friends or enjoying a romantic evening, Oja delivers a feast for the senses with its artful presentation, bold flavors, and exceptional service. The atmosphere was our favorite in Baja’s wine country as it felt as though you were transported to a different world. Finally, you can view the wildlife here, such as zebras in the spring and fall.
